The 2026 Kia K4 lineup is built around one clear idea — give Quebec drivers two shapes of the same well-rounded compact car. Both the K4 sedan and the 2026 K4 Hatchback draw from Kia's "Opposites United" design language, with bold proportions, a wide confident stance, and vertical LED headlights and taillights inspired by the award-winning EV9. The family resemblance is unmistakable from across...
Kia's electric lineup just got more accessible. The 2027 EV3 made its North American debut at the New York International Auto Show as the brand's third dedicated EV this year, following the EV4 and EV5. This subcompact SUV brings EV9-level technology into a smaller, more manoeuvrable package designed for buyers ready to go electric without stretching their budget or parking skills.
The EV3 enters one of the fastest-growing segments in Canada - subcompact SUVs - with a clear mission: make electric driving practical for more people. Built on Kia's 400V E-GMP platform, it offers two battery options. The 58.3 kWh battery powers the base Light trim with front-wheel drive, while the 81.4 kWh battery is available across Wind, Land, GT-Line, GT-Line Limited, and GT trims with optional all-wheel drive on most. The GT trim comes standard with AWD.
Two Battery Sizes, Six Trim Levels
The Light trim with the 58.3 kWh battery delivers 354 kilometres of range - enough for daily commuting and weekend errands. The 81.4 kWh battery in Wind, Land, GT-Line, and GT-Line Limited trims provides 482 kilometres in front-wheel-drive configuration. AWD range figures have not yet been released.
Charging is competitive: the 58.3 kWh battery recharges from 10 to 80% in 29 minutes using DC fast charging, while the 81.4 kWh battery takes 31 minutes. The EV3 features a native NACS charging port, providing direct access to Tesla's Supercharger network without an adapter.
Design Philosophy in Action
The EV3 follows Kia's 'Opposites United' design philosophy. The front features Kia's star map DRL design with cube LED projector headlamps. The vertical arrangement emphasizes the broad fascia, while horizontal lights reinforce the Tiger Face. It's expressive without being aggressive.
The profile is aerodynamic with short overhangs and a low, sloping roofline. Hidden rear door handles keep the side view clean, a cue shared with the EV5 and EV9. Standard 17-inch or available 19-inch wheels wear all-season tyres, while the GT trim gets high-performance all-season tyres and exclusive design elements.
Kia used lightweight materials, aero wheels, a front bumper active air flap, and a full underbody cover to achieve a 0.26 Cd drag coefficient - efficiency that translates directly into range.
Interior Space and Practicality
The cabin features a panoramic display with dual 12.3-inch screens for instruments and infotainment, plus a 5-inch climate display - nearly 30 inches of combined screen space standard across the lineup. The layout is clean with an open centre console including retractable cupholders and storage compartments.
Rear passengers get reclining seat backs adjusting up to 40 degrees, plus dedicated air vents. The 60/40 split-folding rear seats open up 740 litres of cargo space, and a two-position luggage board with underfloor storage adds flexibility. A 25-litre frunk stores charging cables or items you want separate from the main cargo area. An optional Smart Power Tailgate opens automatically via the Smart Key with adjustable opening height and speed.
Standard features include dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, and multicolour mood lighting. Available upgrades include ventilated front seats with memory settings and a 12-inch head-up display.
Technology and Connectivity
The EV3's infotainment system is Kia's Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC), offering robust connectivity enhanced remotely through over-the-air updates. Digital Key 2.0 allows you to lock, unlock, and start the vehicle using a compatible smartphone.
Available tech includes a 12-inch head-up display, eight-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, wireless smartphone charging, and Surround View Monitor. Most functions are accessible within two taps or swipes.
The EV3 features i-Pedal 3.0 technology, allowing you to control speed and bring the vehicle to a complete stop using only the accelerator pedal. This works with Smart Regenerative Braking to recapture energy. The i-Pedal 3.0 system now works in reverse, and i-Pedal Memory reverts to your last-used setting when you restart.
V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) functionality turns the EV3 into a mobile power source for laptops, appliances, e-bikes, or campsite lighting - eliminating the need for a generator.
Safety and Driver Assistance
The EV3 comes standard with eight airbags, including rear side airbags. The Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite includes Forward Collision Avoidance with automatic emergency braking and Hands-On Detection that alerts if your hands leave the steering wheel.
FCA Junction Turning helps avoid collisions with oncoming vehicles when turning left at intersections. FCA Junction Crossing monitors for vehicles approaching from the left or right when driving straight through intersections. Both systems provide alerts followed by automatic emergency braking in certain circumstances.
Other available ADAS features include:
- Driver Attention Warning
- Lane Following Assist
- Intelligent Speed Limit Assist
- Remote Smart Parking Assist
Chassis and Ride Quality
The EV3 uses MacPherson strut suspension at the front and multi-link geometry at the rear, tuned for a smooth, planted ride. Kia added sound absorption throughout the body and damping materials to reduce noise, vibration, and harshness.
The 400V E-GMP platform provides a low centre of gravity thanks to battery placement, improving handling stability and responsiveness while allowing for a flat floor that maximizes interior space.
When It Arrives and What It Costs
The 2027 Kia EV3 is expected to go on sale in Canada in late Q3 2026. Pricing has not yet been announced, but Kia has positioned the EV3 as an accessible entry point into the brand's electric lineup. The six-trim structure - Light, Wind, Land, GT-Line, GT-Line Limited, and GT - ensures configurations for buyers who want basics and those who want premium features.
Why the EV3 Matters
The EV3 fills a gap in Kia's electric lineup. While the EV9 is a three-row family SUV, the EV5 a mid-size crossover, and the EV4 a compact sedan, the EV3 is the subcompact SUV - the segment that dominates Canadian sales. It's sized for city parking, priced for accessibility, and equipped with technology that was reserved for luxury EVs just a few years ago.
