Kia's 2026 hybrid lineup covers four distinct vehicle types: a compact crossover, a mid-size SUV, a three-row SUV, and a full-size family van. Each uses a different version of the hybrid powertrain and serves a different kind of driver — but they all share the same goal of reducing fuel consumption compared to their gas-only equivalents. The Kia Forte received a refresh for 2022 that makes it an even better choice in the sub-compact sedan category.
What’s new
The 2022 Kia Forte received a number of esthetic changes in order to remain one of the most modern and attractive vehicles of its class. These changes include a new grille and new headlamps that give the Forte a more dynamic and aggressive look that conveys an image of performance, which is made more evident on the GT Limited and GT-Line models by red accents around the outside. The rear end also features modernisations to its bumper and available LED taillamps, which now feature five distinct segments per lamp.
Inside, the changes include the new 10.25-inch touchscreen in the GT-Line and GT Limited model, the standard wireless Apple Car Play and Android Auto integration, the electronic parking brake with auto hold function and the remote start.
The same mechanicals
Under its revised appearance, the 2022 Kia Forte keeps the same engines and transmission that have been proven over the last few years. This means that two efficient engines are available, the standard unit being a 2.0L four-cylinder engine that develops 147 horsepower and 132lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with either a six-speed manual transmission for increased driver involvement or a continuously variable IVT transmission that enables a very low fuel consumption.
For a more exciting driving experience, the GT-Limited trim is equipped with a turbocharged 1.6L engine that delivers 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque, which is more than most of the optional engines found under the hood of competing vehicles. This engine is coupled to an advanced 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that is able to make the most of its output with lightning-quick shifts. Despite its increased performance, this engine is also very frugal at the pump.
