Kia's 2026 hybrid lineup covers four distinct vehicle types: a compact crossover, a mid-size SUV, a three-row SUV, and a full-size family van. Each uses a different version of the hybrid powertrain and serves a different kind of driver — but they all share the same goal of reducing fuel consumption compared to their gas-only equivalents. If fuel economy is your primary consideration, here is...
The exciting Forte brings choice, value and quality into the 2020 model year. Fresh from its designation as AJAC's Best Small Car in Canada for 2019, the Forte is building a bright future. Here, we compare the Forte to the 2020 Nissan Sentra, a competitor that is now playing catch-up.
The 2021 Kia Forte is priced right
Pricing is super important in the compact segment. The Forte upends its competitor out of the gate with a lower starting MSRP of $17,695, compared to the Sentra's $18,798. That difference expands when it is financed. And with seven models available, it offers buyers more price points that fit tighter budgets while maximizing value. The Sentra only offers five models.
The 2020 Kia Forte is more powerful and efficient
The 2020 Forte offers two engines in its lineup that offer a range of power and efficiency choices. Most trims receive a 2.0-litre four-cylinder that produces 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. The GT Dual Clutch Automatic (DCT) model features a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder which boosts horsepower to 201 and torque to 195 lb-ft. With an overall base curb weight that is lighter than the Sentra, the Forte is ready to take on any spirited drive.
Five Forte models with the 2.0-litre engine pair with an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT) and attain a fuel economy rating of 7.9 L/100 km in the city and 5.9 L/100 km on the highway. The LX offers a six-speed manual transmission, and the powertrain earns a respectable 8.6 L/100 km in the city and 6.4 L/100 km on the highway. Lastly, the GT pairs with a 7-Speed Dual Clutch Automatic (DCT) with paddle shifters. This powertrain achieves a fuel economy rating of 8.7 L/100 km in the city and 6.6 L/100 km on the highway.
The Nissan Sentra competes with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder that essentially ties the Forte with 149 horsepower. However, this is the only engine offered in the lineup. Combined with a CVT, the powertrain results in a fuel consumption rating that is higher, attaining 8.0/6.0 L/100 km. The manual transmission-equipped model has a noticeably higher rating than the manual Forte LX, with numbers at 9.4/6.4 L/100 km.
Overall, the Forte offers a better power option, better gas mileage, and more drivetrain features.
