Kia's 2026 hybrid lineup covers four distinct vehicle types: a compact crossover, a mid-size SUV, a three-row SUV, and a full-size family van. Each uses a different version of the hybrid powertrain and serves a different kind of driver — but they all share the same goal of reducing fuel consumption compared to their gas-only equivalents. If fuel economy is your primary consideration, here is...
For 2021, we are getting to a new generation of the Kia Sorento. It comes five years after the last evolution of the model that took place in 2016. And this time, the changes are major, so much so that you will no longer recognize this vehicle.
Let's take a look at it together.
The platform
Often, when a model is renewed, it retains its platform. Here, Kia has made a clean sweep, while a new architecture has been designed (the N3) for this model. It's lighter and stiffer, which will certainly translate into a better driving experience. What's interesting is that the current model already offers a very enjoyable driving experience.
Interestingly enough, this new platform will be able to accommodate hybridity. A hybrid version, as well as another plug-in hybrid, will be offered later this year. In fact, Kia is waiting for production of the electric four-wheel drive versions to begin.
In short, there's a lot of new stuff on the 2021 Sorento.
New powertrains
Then with this new platform come new powertrains. The two engines that were previously used to power this SUV are gone. The 2.4-litre 4-cylinder block of the base versions is replaced by a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder mill. The latter will get 192 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. It will also offer better fuel economy with an average of 9.7 liters per 100 kilometers, a gain of 4.9 percent, Kia explains.
Then, with four of the six available models, Kia will use a 2.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that will deliver 281 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. Here too, gains at the pump will be observable, in the order of 10.5 percent, while an average of 9.9 liters per 100 kilometers is expected for the city/highway combination.
An eight-speed automatic transmission will be associated with both engines.
Six versions, including an all-new one
Six versions will be marketed: LX+, LX Premium, X-Line, EX, EX+ and SX. The X-Line is new. It will be the first in the range to take advantage of the turbo engine. It will also offer higher ground clearance for those who want to venture off the beaten path, as well as second-row captain seats and a visual package that will be sure not to go unnoticed.
New Style
And, precisely, in terms of style, this new Sorento is going to stand out. The front takes on a new, resolutely modern design, and at the rear, the lights adopt a style inspired by the Telluride. All in all, this new generation is a model with more character.
The rest
For the rest, the interior will be much more modern and, Kia promises, packed with new technologies and better quality materials. The new Sorento promises to be a hit in its segment. Be among the first to discover it.
