The 2026 Kia Sportage HEV and 2026 Kia Sorento HEV share identical hybrid powertrains but serve entirely different purposes. The Sportage HEV positions itself as the spirited, tech-forward compact for drivers who prioritize agility and modern design, while the Sorento HEV expands the formula to accommodate three-row family needs. Both deploy the same 1.6-litre turbo-hybrid system - one...
The new, fourth-generation Sorento appears on the Canadian landscape with a shockingly beautiful exterior, better power and technology, and value to boot. Kia engineers looked at every aspect of the Sorento and made improvements where customers want them the most. For illustration, we compare the new Sorento to the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas.
The 2021 Kia Sorento has a better range of power and more innovative drivetrain
The 2021 Sorento offers two engines that encompass desirable efficiency and a wide range of power. All drivetrains have standard all-wheel drive and Terrain modes.
The first engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that produces 191 horsepower and 182 lb.-ft. Torque. The estimated combined fuel economy 9.7 L/100km represents a 4.9% improvement over the previous engine (10.2 L/100km). This estimate makes this engine the most efficient out of any other Sorento or Atlas powerplant.
The next Sorento engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder Turbo that generates 281 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. This is the most powerful engine available between the Sorento and Atlas lineups. However, it represents a 10.8% gain in efficiency over its predecessor with a combined fuel economy of 9.9 L/100 km. This drivetrain includes a segment exclusive eight -speed wet dual clutch automatic transmission that facilitates quick gear changes without interrupting torque delivery. You won't find this with the Atlas.
The Volkswagen Atlas also offers two engines, and both are less efficient than their Sorento counterparts. A turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo generates 235 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, and a 3.6-litre six-cylinder that peaks at 276 horsepower with 266 lb-ft of torque. When compared to the Sorento's offerings, these appear les logical and cover a reduced range of tastes.
The 2021 Kia Sorento's style and amenities are much more advanced
Line both vehicles up side by side, and the Sorento appears light years ahead of the Atlas. Although we can't measure style, some things are just obvious. Sharper and more modern lines with high-tech lighting and other details cover the Kia from beginning to end.
The new X-Line trim level for the Sorento includes 20-inch alloy wheels and second-row captain’s chairs, while an available 12.3-inch fully digital gauge cluster and 10.25-inch infotainment screen with up to eight USB ports dominate the interior.
