The top-tier X-Line trim takes the 2026 Kia Seltos in a bold visual direction. While the standard Seltos models focus on clean, approachable styling, the X-Line adds elements that give the compact SUV a more assertive road presence. These design changes work together to create a cohesive look that stands out from typical family-oriented vehicles. The X-Line trim builds on the regular Seltos...

The subcompact SUV segment continues to grow. That's easy to understand, as this type of vehicle really does offer the perfect compromise between the practicality of an SUV and the more pleasant and comfortable ride that a car usually offers.
Take the two models being compared here. The Kia Seltos made its debut in the spring of 2020 and already it has established itself as one of the most popular in its class. For 2022, it will have to deal with a new rival, the Toyota Corolla Cross, which promises to be very interesting as well.
However, the Seltos has so many qualities that it really has nothing to fear from the newcomer. The following examples illustrate this.
Interior layout
The latest subcompact SUVs to hit the market are a bit more spacious than their predecessors. In fact, their size is becoming quite interesting and ideal for many families. The Kia Seltos, introduced in the spring of 2020, falls into this category, as does the new Toyota Corolla Cross.
However, to find the most versatile interior, you'll have to turn to Kia. The Seltos offers a maximum cargo volume of 1,778 liters, which is extraordinary for its size.
However, what's even more impressive is the amount of space available for the rear seat occupants. Compared to the Corolla Cross, legroom, shoulder room, etc. is much more generous in Kia's case. And that's not to mention the fact that Kia offers a richer environment.
Putting it all together, we're talking about details that make all the difference.
Identity
When designing the Seltos, Kia went to great lengths to create a model with a singular style. Their work paid off, as no other vehicle can be mistaken for it. The Seltos is pretty, distinct, colorful and offers a modern look that will surely age well.
Toyota played the conservative card with the Corolla Cross. It takes the style of its big brother, the RAV4, but leaves out its own identity. It's not an ugly model, but it doesn't have much of a personality. It's the opposite with the Seltos, which also features flyaway colors and two-tone approaches.
Really, there's a world of difference between the two styling visions.
Two engines
Finally, the Toyota Corolla Cross is offered with a single powertrain, a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder. With 169 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque, its power is adequate, but it's delivered neutrally via a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
With the Seltos, there are two choices; one with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder offering 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque, the other with a 1.6-liter turbo 4-cylinder, this time capable of 175 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. The naturally-aspirated engine works with an intelligent CVT transmission that performs like a regular automatic, while the turbocharged engine works in concert with a seven-speed automatic transmission.
Clearly, versatility is also on Kia's side when it comes to what's under the hood. In fact, that's what stands out when comparing the two models; the Seltos' more playful and lively character.
