Kia's 2026 hybrid lineup covers four distinct vehicle types: a compact crossover, a mid-size SUV, a three-row SUV, and a full-size family van. Each uses a different version of the hybrid powertrain and serves a different kind of driver — but they all share the same goal of reducing fuel consumption compared to their gas-only equivalents. If fuel economy is your primary consideration, here is...
When the Kia Seltos hit the market in early 2020, it made a lot of eyes glaze over. With this vehicle, Kia offered the perfect compromise between the subcompact SUV and the compact SUV. Others have since followed suit, including Volkswagen with the Taos.
Both models are interesting, but so far Kia has not been matched by any competitor. The following points of comparison between the two SUVs prove it.
Space
With a smaller product, the way space is maximized inside makes all the difference. Kia has outdone itself with its Seltos, as it has managed to offer a very generous cargo volume (more than the Taos with four-wheel-drive versions), but more importantly, an incredible amount of space in the rear seats.
That's also very good of Volkswagen, we must admit. However, considering all the other advantages of the Seltos, it's important to understand that it doesn't give up an inch to the Taos.
The powertrains
As a buyer, you'll agree, it's always interesting to know that you have a choice. That's what we have at Kia, with two engines on the menu. To begin with, a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder serves most versions. With 146 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque, it does an excellent job.
For those who want a little more, a 1.6-liter turbo 4-cylinder moves the SX version. With 175 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque, it energizes the vehicle's handling to the point where sportiness becomes a reality behind the wheel.
At Volkswagen, you don't have a choice. All models are equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that offers 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque.
Comfort
In addition to the interior volume, performance and design of the vehicle (which is more interesting and distinctive at Kia), the level of comfort that is offered for long drives is another element that is worth its weight in gold.
It's a close match here, but Kia did such a great job with the Seltos' suspension components that we have to admit that for long trips, we're better served by Kia.
And to all these great arguments, we could add the general quality of the materials used, the level of equipment that is more generous for the price, as well as the superior reliability of the Seltos.
Really, you win on all fronts with the Kia model.
