Kia's 2026 hybrid lineup covers four distinct vehicle types: a compact crossover, a mid-size SUV, a three-row SUV, and a full-size family van. Each uses a different version of the hybrid powertrain and serves a different kind of driver — but they all share the same goal of reducing fuel consumption compared to their gas-only equivalents. If fuel economy is your primary consideration, here is...
Recently, Kia announced its electrification plans. In all, the Korean manufacturer plans to introduce 11 all-electric models by 2026. In early March, the first of them, the EV6, was unveiled.
The vehicle is a cross between an SUV and a car. It is built on the same platform as the new Ioniq 5, the first vehicle of Hyundai's new brand dedicated to EVs. This platform is called E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform).
As for the powertrain, we expect to find in the EV6 the same elements as the Ioniq 5, that is to say battery options whose sizes will be 58 and 77,4 kWh. As for the drivetrain, two configurations will be possible, either rear- or all-wheel drive. With the former, power would be 215 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, while with the latter, it would reach 320 horsepower and 446 pound-feet of torque. And the range? We expect something around 320 kilometers to 500 kilometers depending on the battery size. All this remains to be confirmed.
What's really interesting is that the battery will be able to recover 80 percent of its capacity in just 20 minutes at a level 3 charging station (350 kW capacity), all thanks to an 800-volt architecture.
Aesthetically, the EV6 is an evolution of the Imagine concept that Kia unveiled in 2019. That concpt, by the way, had been described as a car with SUV, sedan and even coupe inspirations, which is obvious when you take a look at the roofline that dips backwards.
Inside, you'll also discover a cutting-edge design. The layout is sleek and consists of textured surfaces. There's a balanced mix of traditional and tactile controls. Most notable is the curved unit that combines the instrument cluster with the multimedia center.
All in all, it's a very attractive vehicle that was presented by Kia. We'll have more information to share when the model's debut approaches.
