Kia's 2026 hybrid lineup covers four distinct vehicle types: a compact crossover, a mid-size SUV, a three-row SUV, and a full-size family van. Each uses a different version of the hybrid powertrain and serves a different kind of driver — but they all share the same goal of reducing fuel consumption compared to their gas-only equivalents. If fuel economy is your primary consideration, here is...
The Kia Forte was introduced in 2010 and has been renewed in 2014 and 2019. As a result, this year marks the third year of the third-generation model. It also results in some adjustments to the lineup. Let's take a look at three things you should know about this model.
Choice!
While there's less choice than there used to be in the compact segment, it doesn't show up when you look at Kia's lineup, especially the Forte family, as they are available in various ways.
The 2021 Kia Forte is available as a sedan or as a hatchback model, the Forte5. As a four-door model, it can be presented in seven ways: LX manual, LX, EX, EX+, EX Premium, GT and GT Limited. The five-door variant is available in the EX, GT Manual, GT and GT Limited trim levels.
When we do the math, 11 different 2021 Kia Forte models are available.
Two engines and three transmissions
The choice does not stop at the variants and their equipment. Each one offers combinations of engines and transmissions, resulting in many options for the buyer.
Manual transmission enthusiasts can find something for them with the LX MT version of the sedan, or the GT MT hatchback, an addition to this year's lineup. The GT versions are otherwise paired with a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission. Otherwise, with all other models, a continuously variable transmission (CVT) is standard.
And as for the engines, it's simple. With the GT models, it's a 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine pushing 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque, which energizes the car's handling. Otherwise, other versions of the Forte are offered with a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder good for 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. The latter offers spirited performance and very smooth handling.
A fantastic car on the road
Since its beginnings a little over ten years ago, the Forte has never stopped improving. Today, some may be surprised to learn that it is one of the best cars in its category. It has nothing to envy its competitors, whether in terms of the offering, quality/price/equipment ratio, or driving experience. While the entry-level versions offer a completely healthy driving experience, the turbocharged GT variants provide a pleasant driving experience for those behind the wheel. Acceleration, steering, handling and braking are all well-calibrated.
Truly, Kia Forte is a car to discover and more than ever in 2021.
