In a remarkable achievement for Kia, 2023 has been marked by record-breaking sales figures and a significant upsurge in electric vehicle (EV) demand. Kia Canada recently announced its highest-ever yearly sales, surpassing the previous record set in 2021. This year's success is highlighted by the popularity of specific models and the remarkable growth in the sales of electric vehicles.
Record Sales and Top Performers
Kia Canada has reported an unprecedented total of 79,199 units sold in 2023, marking a 26.1% increase over the previous year. This milestone surpasses the company's previous sales record, emphasizing the brand's growing appeal among Canadian consumers. Leading the sales charts were the Kia Seltos, Sportage, and Forte, each setting individual records for the year. The Seltos emerged as the top seller with 17,886 units, followed by the Sportage at 14,653 and the Forte at 10,356 units sold to date.
Electric Vehicle Surge
Reflecting the increasing consumer interest in environmentally friendly transportation, Kia Canada's electric vehicle sales have nearly tripled compared to 2022. The year-to-date (YTD) increase of 193.1% in EV sales is a testament to the brand's growing strength in this segment. The Niro EV and EV6 lead the charge, with sales figures of 3,885 and 2,678 units, respectively. This surge aligns with global trends toward sustainable transportation and indicates a significant shift in consumer preferences.
Future Prospects and EV Expansion
Kia's commitment to expanding its electric vehicle lineup is evident in its Plan S strategy, which focuses on broadening the range of electrified models. A notable addition in this regard is the introduction of the EV9, Kia's first mass-market all-electric 3-row SUV. This launch will enhance Kia's electric portfolio, which currently includes the EV6 and Niro EV. The brand's focus on electric mobility indicates a strategic shift towards sustainable transportation solutions.
“The Kia brand has evolved and grown tremendously, and this year has solidified that consumers are taking notice,” says Elias El-Achhab, VP and COO of Kia Canada. “Our electrified vehicle sales are paving the way for another year of success that will see us end 2023 on a high note.”
