A Quebec family loading up for a July drive to the cottage knows the real test isn’t the destination. It’s the four or five hours in between. Kids get restless, adults get stiff, and a flat bench seat in the second row doesn’t help either one. The 2027 Kia Carnival’s available VIP Lounge second row is built around that exact stretch of highway. What Is the VIP Lounge Second Row? On the...
Summer road trips across Quebec often mean long highway stretches, whether the destination is the Saguenay region or the Gaspé Peninsula. A multi-day trip like that asks a lot of any vehicle: enough range to cover ground between stops, fast charging that does not eat into vacation time, and enough cargo room for a family’s gear.
The 2026 Kia EV9 is built around exactly those needs, with battery options, DC fast charging, and cargo configurations aimed at drivers covering real distance this July.
Why Range and Charging Matter on Quebec’s Summer Routes
A drive from Quebec City toward Saguenay, or further out to the Gaspé, covers long highway stretches with charging stations spread unevenly along the route. Warm July conditions help battery efficiency, but a multi-day trip still means planning stops around meals, fuel breaks, or an overnight stay.
The EV9’s NACS charge port, standard on the 2026 lineup, opens access to thousands of additional fast-charge stations across Canada and the United States. That widens route options across Quebec and beyond, instead of limiting a trip to CCS-only networks.
Battery, Range, and 350 kW Charging on the Highway
The EV9 offers two battery packs. Light RWD uses a 76.1 kWh battery rated for 370 km of range, while Wind RWD, Land AWD, and GT run the larger 99.8 kWh pack.
Wind RWD, the long-range rear-drive configuration, delivers the lineup’s longest rating at 491 km. Stepping up to Land AWD trades some of that range, down to 455 km, for all-wheel traction and towing capability. GT trades further down to 418 km in exchange for 502 hp and a 4.6-second 0-100 km/h time.
On the highway, the EV9’s 800-volt architecture supports up to 350 kW DC fast charging. The 76.1 kWh pack in Light RWD charges from 10-80% in about 20 minutes; the 99.8 kWh pack in Wind RWD, Land AWD, and GT takes about 24 minutes at the same charger power. Either way, a fast-charge stop fits comfortably into a highway rest break.

Cargo and Towing for Gear-Heavy Trips
Camping gear, coolers, and bikes need somewhere to go, and the EV9 offers three cargo configurations depending on how many rows are in use.
- Behind the third row: 573 L for daily bags and a cooler
- Behind the second row, third row folded: 1,233 L for camping equipment or extra luggage
- Seats folded flat: 2,314 L for bikes, larger gear, or a full load of cottage supplies
The smart power liftgate opens the cargo area automatically, and the second and third rows fold flat to load bulky items without wrestling a hatch or headrests. On the Premium package, second-row passengers get captain’s chairs and heated, ventilated seats, plus reclining relaxation seats for long highway stretches.
Towing capacity depends on drivetrain: RWD trims are rated to 2,000 lbs (907 kg), while Land AWD is rated to 5,000 lbs (2,267 kg), enough for a small trailer or boat on a cottage run.
Tech and Driver-Assist Features for Long Days on the Road
The EV9 pairs dual 12.3-inch screens with built-in navigation, and Kia Connect, standard across the lineup, adds route planning, charging status, and remote climate pre-conditioning from a phone before you get in.
Higher trims add a 12-inch head-up display along with Surround View Monitor and Blind-View Monitor, features that reduce driver fatigue on the highway and make tight charging-station parking easier to manage.
Ground clearance shifts by trim too: 177 mm on Light RWD versus 198 mm on Land AWD, which also includes Terrain Drive Modes for MUD, SAND, and SNOW. Those modes work on unpaved cottage roads or loose gravel leading to a campsite, even in July.
Who Gets the Most From the EV9 This Summer
Families packing for a week at the cottage or a multi-day camping loop benefit most from Wind RWD’s 491 km range, which stretches highway stops further apart.
Anyone towing a small boat or trailer should look at Land AWD: the 5,000 lbs (2,267 kg) towing rating and Terrain Drive Modes handle a boat launch or gravel cottage road that RWD trims are not rated for.
Road-trippers who value charging flexibility gain the most from the NACS port itself, since it opens access to a wider network of fast chargers across the province and beyond Quebec’s borders.
Plan Your Next Quebec Getaway in the Kia EV9
The 2026 EV9 pairs long-range battery options and 350 kW charging with cargo space built for multi-day travel. An 8-year/150,000 km battery warranty and 5-year/100,000 km basic and powertrain coverage, plus 24-hour roadside assistance, back the vehicle well beyond Quebec’s borders.
